How do I label the NMR's for Vanillyl Alcohol?
In proton nmr at 1.6ppm this is benzylic alcohol O-H proton. Then at 3.9ppm it is OMe methyl 3proton. Then at 4.6ppm there is benzylic CH2 proton and at 5.63ppm this is phenolic OH proton which is ortho to OMe group.and remaining 3 aromatic proton are in 6.8ppm similarly at carbon nmr 55ppm and 66ppm will be OMe methyl carbon and CH2OH benzylic carbon respectively. And other 6 peaks for 6 aromatic carbon.

(a) From the spectral data ( H, C NMR, IR, MS) you were given, identify the structure of your product. Explain why you chose your particular product based on the spectroscopic data. (b) Fully assign the 1H NMR spectrum of your product (i.e. determine which peaks in the 1H NMR correspond to which hydrogens in the product). You will not receive full marks for determination of the unknown unless you assign the 1H NMR spectrum completely. (c) Now work backwards...
