Answer #1

The term training refers to the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and competencies as a result of the teaching of vocational or practical skills and knowledge that relate to specific useful competencies. Training has specific goals of improving one's capability, capacity, and performance, while Development is an act of improving by expanding or enlarging or refining. It is often viewed as a broad, ongoing multi-faceted set of activities to bring someone or an organization up to another threshold of performance. It is also viewed as a life-long goal and experience. When a person is recruited in an Organization, Training and Development is imparted to such a person based upon the need analysis conducted upon that employee.

In order to motivate and retain the employees at the entry-levels, I shall undertake various methods of Training and Development such as:

  • On the job training

- Induction Training

- Job Instruction Training

- Coaching and Mentoring

  • Job Rotation ( Eg. Jump seating)

Off the job training

  • Role Playing
  • Lecture Sessions
  • Case Studies and Incidents
  • Conferences and Seminars
  • Committee Assignments

I shall further include certain areas of the Employee’s:

  • Communications: The increasing diversity of today's workforce brings a wide variety of languages and customs.
  • Computer skills: Computer skills are becoming a necessity for conducting administrative and office tasks.
  • Customer service: Increased competition in today's global marketplace makes it critical that employees understand and meet the needs of customers.
  • Diversity: Diversity training usually includes explanation about how people have different perspectives and views, and includes techniques to value diversity
  • Ethics: Today's society has increasing expectations about corporate social responsibility. Also, today's diverse workforce brings a wide variety of values and morals to the workplace.
  • Human relations: The increased stresses of today's workplace can include misunderstandings and conflict. Training can help people to get along in the workplace.
  • Quality initiatives: Initiatives such as Total Quality Management, Quality Circles, benchmarking, etc., require basic training about quality concepts, guidelines and standards for quality, etc.
  • Safety: Safety training is critical where industrial safety is concerned like working with heavy equipment, hazardous chemicals, repetitive activities, etc.

With appropriate Training and Development, I shall be able to reap the following general benefits through the employees:

  • Increased job satisfaction and morale among employees
  • Increased employee motivation
  • Increased efficiencies in processes, resulting in financial gain
  • Increased capacity to adopt new technologies and methods
  • Increased innovation in strategies and products
  • Reduced employee turnover
  • Enhanced company image, e.g., conducting ethics training
  • Risk management, e.g., training about sexual harassment, diversity training, product launch etc.

In this manner, I shall use the Training and Development activity to motivate and retain a talented entry-level employee in my field of study.
