Answer #1

The difference in the infrared spectrum of cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone.

First we analyse the structure to see what types of bonds are present in both.

Cyclohexanol

cyclohexanone

You can clearly see the similarity in both the structutes. C-C and C-H

Both of these show stretching bands which are common in the IR spectra.

Then the major difference is C=O in cyclohexanone and C-O & O-H in cyclohexanol.

The carbonyl C= O shows a sharp peak at 1716-1720

And in cyclohexanol we see O-H stretch at around 3400 cm-1   the hump is broad due to the extensive hydrogen bonding in OH group

The common C-H occurs at ~2900. The C-C vibrations are shown in the fingerprint region (400-1400)

Nonsignificant peaks.

1309 - OH bend in plane

1129 C-C-O symmetric stretch

817 C-C-O symmetric stretch

655 O-H outofplane bend.
