Warda feels as though she is a failure. Although her college GPA is a respectable 3.9 she feels as though she should be doing much better. She is concerned about her parents' views of her. Even though they call, visit, and send care packages often, Cindy is sure they do so because they know she is incapable of caring for herself, although she has a regular job, and is often complimented by her supervisor, she believes she can do better and continuously blames herself for any errors that happen. When a recent short-term relationship fizzled out Warda blamed her own inability to maintain a witty conversation as the cause of the break-up. Although several other people have since asked her out, she is nervous about accepting because she knows if things don't go well she won't ever get a second chance.

Cognitive approach explaining human nature, says that our behaviour is the result of our thoughts, reasoning and judgement about the world. When a person has distorted or dysfunctional thinking, those are reflected in the behaviour, as mental disorders or abnormal actions. In the given case, Wards suffers from distorted and dysfunctional thinking. Despite things are pretty good in her life and she is exceptionally good, she makes maladaptive reasoning about the happening in her life. Examples are good career and academics, but still she thinks she is not that good.
