1) Heat of formation is the am ount of energy involved for the formation of the compound/substance from its elements in their most stable state. Higher the the heat of formation value, higher the amount of heat need to be absorbed to form the compound and it makes the substance a high-energy compound. High energy compunds are reactive and are less stable. So Heat of formation and Compound's stability are inversely properotional.

High Heat of formation - Compound is less stable
Low Heat of formation - Compound is more stable
