The supply chain process can be streamlined so that supply managers are more involved in the earlier stages. Following are the key nine step that are essential in streamlining the supply chain so that supply chain can be operated effectively and efficiently and supply manager can get engaged in ensuring that these stapes are running well as per plan.

  1. Recognition of need – The first step in supply chain is to understand the need of the supply chain. The need recognition is the first step in planning for the upply chain process and streaming it.
  2. Description of need – In this step we need to clearly describe the need so that planer can understand the need based on it description and can work out ways for managing this decrypted need.
  3. Identification and analysis of possible sources of supply – In this step, we need to identify the possible sources of supply who can meet our need and we can make adequate analysis around these sources for suitability to our needs.
  4. Supplier selection and determination of terms – In this step we will make the selection of the supplier and will determine the required terms of service required for meeting our supply chain need.
  5. Preparation and placement of the purchase order –This is the step in which we will prepare and place the order to the selected party so that selected party can start providing their services to us as per our stated order. The order is the way to make the commercial agreement with the party and mention the requirement on legal paper.
  6. Follow up and expedite the order – This is the step which will focus on the follow-ups and expedite the order so that our supply chain needs can be executed as per plan and timeline.   
  7. Receipt and inspection of goods – In this step the goods are received with the selected supply chain party and their process as per our purchase order. The inspection I lined up for the goods for confirmations.
  8. Invoice clearing and payment – In this step the invoice is cleared post good inspection and passed. The payment is made to the party as per payment term. This step completes the commercial transaction with the elected party.
  9. Maintenance of records and relationships – This is the step for maintaining the records and relationships so that we can make such supply chain works in future as well.
