Answer #1

Atomic number=number of protons=number of electrons. ( in a neutral atom)

Atomic number of Mg is 12.

number of protons =12

number of electrons=12

Since mass number of Mg is 24 and it is equal to the sum of number of protons and neutrons.

Number of neutrons =12

Electronic configuration 1s²2s²2p6 3s².

since valence shell is outer most shell here it is 3 so no. of valence electrons =2

Since number of electrons and protons is equal so Mg is electrically neutral.

It is reactive metal since its ionisation enthalpy is low. However it is less reactive than Na .It is electropositive metal .
