There are two types of individuals in the demand for natural gas. Group X has a total of 5 people and each person’s demand curve is Q = 100 – 10*P while Group Y has 10 people and each person’s demand curve is Q = 100 – 5*P. a) Assume natural gas costs $10 per unit.

a)Calculate the consumer surplus amounts for each person (for a person in Group X and a person in Group Y).

b) Construct the aggregate demand curve for Group X. Also construct the aggregate demand curve for group Y.

c) Construct the market demand curve for this economy (all people). Do this graphically or mathematically.

Two individuals, a and b, consume goods x and y. Their endowments are w(2,5) and wb (10,1). Both have identical Cobb-Douglas utility functions ui(x,y') xy where i malized to 1; for simplicity we write px as just p. Then consumer i's demand for each good is i 1 2 i m and I 2 where m refers to the value of consumer i's endowment. Suppose a natural gas distribution company has capital investments of $8 million and a capital cost r of 10%. The firm’s operating, billing, and maintenance costs are $200,000. The firm buys natural gas at the city gate price of $5/MCF to sell to its customers. The firm distributes gas to those customers through its existing pipeline network at close to zero marginal cost. The firm faces the following (inverse) demand by customer type (recall that these are average demand per...

    2) Natural gas for residences is best provided by a monopoly due to economies of scale. Assume it costs the monopoly $4 per MMBtu for the gas and that monthly demand in MMBtus is given by D(P) = 12 - 0.2P for a typical household. This implies that the inverse demand is P(Q) = 60 - 50 and that the marginal revenue is MR = 60 - 100. a. Extra: Using algebra, verify the formula for the inverse demand. b....
