I have posted this question before and they got it wrong, the answers are NOT a.) 22.11 and b.) 48.83
A] By Brags law,
2 d* sin theta = n*lambda where symbols have usual meaning
theta1 = arcsin (lambda/2d) where lambda = hc/E = 1240 eVnm/15e3eV = 0.08267 nm
= arcsin (0.08267/0.220)
= 22.07 degree
B] second order diffraction , theta = arcsin (lambda/2d) where lambda = hc/E = 1240 eVnm/15e3eV = 0.08267 nm
= arcsin (0.08266667/0.220)
= 48.72 degree

When X-rays with ž. - 1.937 A are used, the second-order Bragg reflection from a set of parallel planes in a(n) potassium crystal is observed at an angle 0-21.32°. If the spacing between these planes corresponds to the unit cell length (d-a), calculate the edge length of the potassium unit cell. Submit Answer Retry Entire Group 9 more...
+ X-Ray Diffraction 25 of 30 > A Review Constants Periodic Table Part A X-ray diffraction can be used to obtain structural information of crystalline compounds. X-ray wavelengths are about the same size as the space between atoms in solids. X-rays aimed at a crystal are diffracted by the atoms in the crystalline lattice. This results in an X-ray diffraction pattern, which can be seen on a detector placed behind the crystal. X-rays with a wavelength of 1.58 A scatter...
