A trojan horse is a variant of malware which often disguises itself a a legitimate software and affect the system. They are often deployed to gain access to a system by tricking the user by some form of social engineering into loading/running trojans in the systems. Once they run successfully, trojan horses can steal your sensitive data, and gain backdoor access to your system.

One of the most famous trojan horse is rootkit which hides certain objects or activities in your system. This can effectively prevent malicious programs being detected.
