The balanced equation for the reaction of zinc with aqueous HCl is -

Zn(s) 2HCl(aq) - ZnCl2(aH2(g)

When H2 gas is produced, you will observe bubbles in the reaction mixture and you can observe a pop sound if you take a little match near the mouth of the test tube.

This is a displacement (or substitution) reaction.

Mg reacts with oxygen to produce MgO as follows -
