Question

Q3. (1 mark) If an axon had a conduction velocity of 115 m/sec what two structural features would it have if it was viewed using a transmission electron microscope? Q4. (1 mark) If an axon had a conduction velocity of 115 m/s how long would it take for an action potential to travel along this axon if it was 1520 mm long? Show your calculation.Thanks in advance!

Answer #1

3. If an axon has a conduction velocity of 115 m/sec, it means it is a myelinated axon. Transmission electron microscopy of a myelinated axon shows Axoplasm, schwann cell nucleus and myelin wrapping over axon.

4. Time = Distance/ Speed

Distance= 1520 mm =1.52 m

Speed= 115 m/sec

Time= 1.52/ 115

= 0.013 seconds
