P 6 A student stands on a freely rotating platform while holding a 3.00kg mass in each hand. With arms fully extended the masses are 1m from the axis of rotation and the student rotates with an angular speed of 0.750rad/s. The moment of inertia of student plus platform is 3kg.m2 and does not change much as they bring their arms in or move them out because most of their mass is in their body not their arms. However the angular velocity of the student does change when they bring their arms in close to their body. With arms in the masses the student holds in their hands are 0.3m from the rotational axis a) Find the new angular speed of the student. b) What is the final kinetic energy of the whole student, platform hand-held weights system? c) What would be the torque needed to stop the student in 2s when they have their arms in?
