Reative oxygen species or ROS is produced in plants in response to various abiiotic stresses. ROS production can cause damage protein , lipis, carbohydrate or DNA which leads to oxydative stress. ROS is composed of both radical (such as O2, superoxide radicals, OH, hydroxyl radical) and non radical form ( such as H2O2 or O2, single oxygen). chloroplasts, photosystem I and II are the main area for the production of O2 and O2, whereas, mitochondria, complex I, ubiquinone and electron transport chain (ETC) ( complex III) are the main areas where generation of O2 takes place.

But plant has an antioxidant defence mechanism which protects plant against the damage caused by ROS. Palnts have well developed enzymatic and non enzymatic defence system which controls the chain of uncontrolled oxidation reaction and save plant cells from the adverse effect of ROS.
