Earth has been divided on the basis of latitude and longitude. Sun moves 15 degree per hour. That's why we don't get equal time at a particular point in every areas of the world. For that the earth has been divided into different time zones baswd on their latitude.

Different country have different time zones according to their latitude and longitudinal positions.

Greenwich mean time is the standard time zone because when sun is at maximum elevation it is found in Greenwich at 12.00 noon time.
