8086 Microprocessor

• It is 16-bit microprocessor
• N-channel depletion mode silicon gate technology is used to implement or invent 8086 microprocessor.

Importance of 8086 application:

• 8086 is used in traffic signals in order to control.
• It has its own importance in security systems and fax machines.
• It is generally used predominantly in intercom and camcoder.
• 8086 is used in domestic appliances like washing machines.
• 8086 is used in telephone and televisions.
• They can also be used in color printer, laser printer and computers.
• It is used in engine control system and in airbags

Product Specifications:

• ​​​​​​​8086 has 16- bit data bus (AD0-AD15)
• 8086 has M/IO i.e Memory and Input Output pin
• 8086 is collecting 360mA of current at maximum.
• It operates between 0⁰ C and 70⁰ C ambient temperature.
• It contains extendable temperature ranges also

History of 8086 before the invention of 8086:

• 8086 microprocessor was released by Intel in 1978.
• It was a great invented and the experiments started in 1976.
• In that era, most of the chips are being used 8 bit data paths.
• Some of the chips could not perform multiple tasks
• There was a poor memory management before the invention of 8086.
• More number of instructions are used in the processors other than 8086.
• The other processor's design was also complex.

Hardware in 8086:

• It is a 16 bit microprocessor and it has 4 or 6 byte instruction cache
• It contains 1 MB of main memory
• It performs 2.5 million instructions per second (MIPS) and i.e 400 nSec
• It supports two modes of operation and they are minimum mode and maximum mode.

Recommondation for Improvement:

• ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Memory model has to improved.
• Speed of operation has to be improved.
• 8086 is not able to run CP/M directly and it should also be handled.
