If the three forces, F1, F2, and Fs, are in static equilibrium then not only do the three forces cancel each other but the horizontal components of all three add up to zero newtons, as do the vertical components of all three. So, what are the horizontal and vertical components of F3? 4. Do the components of Fa you just calculated match the diagram that you drew for question 1? What is the total magnitude of F3? IF.1

F1x = - 4 cos30 = - 3.5 N

F1y = 4 sin30 = 2 N

F2x = 4 cos30 = 3.5 N

F2y = 4 sin30 = 2 N


3. F1 + F2 + F3 = 0

so F1x + F2x + F3x = 0

F3x = 0 .......Ans

F1y + F2y + F3y = 0

F3y = - 4 N ........Ans

4. magnitude = sqrt(F3x^2 + F3y^2) = 4 N
