Chapter 8, Section 2, Exercise 053
Peanut Butter vs Ham & Pickles
The ANOVA table for the SandwichAnts data below
indicates that there is a difference in mean number of ants among
the three types of sandwich fillings. We know that the difference
is significant between vegimite and ham & pickles, but not
between vegemite and peanut butter. What about peanut butter vs ham
& pickles? Test whether the difference in mean ant count is
significant (at a 5% level) between those two fillings, using the
information from the ANOVA. Do a pairwise test of μ2 vs μ3, where
μ2 is the mean ant count for peanut butter and μ3 is the mean ant
count for ham & pickles. The sample means are x¯2=34.0 and
x¯3=49.25.

A.
Find the test statistic.
Round your answer to two decimal places.
The test statistic is .
the absolute tolerance is +/-0.01
B.
Find the p-value.
Round your answer to three decimal places.
The p-value is .
the absolute tolerance is +/-0.001
C.
What is the conclusion of the test using a 5% significance level?
Reject H0. |
Do not reject H0. |
D.
Is there evidence of a difference in mean ant counts between peanut butter and ham & pickles?
Yes |
No |
from the output given of one way anova analysis
we have

A )The test statistic is
5.63
B. The p-value is 0.011
C. since p value is less than 0.05 so we will reject H0
D. yes there is sufficient evidence of a difference in mean ant counts between peanut butter and ham & pickles
