Change Control is an integral part of any organization, as the only aspect of an organization which is constant is change. It is very important for any change to be managed and controlled. This is even more important in IT wings of organizations.

The 3 important factors to be considered are:

• Does the process check for the correct classification of a request? Is an incident being raised as a change, just so that it is processed through a different channel? Or is it vice versa? It is important for people to correctly categorize the changes raised, and the change control process should ensure that it is done.
• Review Mechanism: Does the change control process have regular governance built in? Does it have a Change Advisory Board set up which oversees all the changes and steps in if there is a dispute?
• Does the process define the timelines for a change to be acted on? Are there internal SLAs? Every change raised should be completed within a certain timeframe (of course depending on the effort estimate), but there should be a reasonable time defined for its turnaround. This should be taken care of by the change control process.

Communication plan is something which is very integral to the successful execution of any project. It should ensure that:

• What is the right kind of communication that your stakeholders expect? For example, does your VP of sales need a weekly status report in the form of an e-mail or a slide? What should be its content?
• How do you keep various people in loop? This is important as projects typically have weekly status reviews/monthly status reviews. It is important to chalk out the most efficient way for a particular project (as every project will have different requirements and different stakeholders)
• How does the plan ensure that the communication passed on to stakeholders is valuable information? It should not be information overload and the project team passing on status updates just for the sake of sending something out.

These are the 3 important things that a communications plan should consider, and this is how it integrates with an integrated project plan.
