In the United States, laws mandating that companies be responsible for take back of electronic wastes are becoming prevalent at the state level. Today, there are more than 70,000 remanufacturing companies with revenues exceeding $55 billion in annual sales. How does remanufacturing relate to this legislation? How is remanufacturing related to green manufacturing initiatives?

Legislation makes companies to take back the products that have completed their lives. Afterwards, the companies want these products get remanufactured in different ways. It creates derived demand for the remanufacturing companies who take these electronic waste and process it to remanufacture other products. Hence, remanufacturing is due to the presence of the legislation. Legislation getting stringent, will make increasing demand of the remanufacturing. So, these two are related.
Remanufacturing is related to green manufacturing initiatives in a way that producing least amount of waste and biodegradable waste is the key objective of remanufactring and these objectives can only be achieved when green manufacturing takes place. It is the green manufacturing initiatives that make remanufacturing process to use clean technologies, process methods and techniques that produces the least amount of waste.
