1). The figure shows a function of x as the graph is a parabola which is the graph of a quadratic function y = -ax2+bx+c, where a,b,c are real numbers and a is positive. Further, x takes all the real values between -4 and 2 , excluding -4 ( as there is a hole in the graph at x = 4). Thus, the domain is (-4,2].Further, y = f(x) takes all the real values between -2 and 4 so that the range of the function is [-2,4].

2). The figure shows a function of y as the graph is a parabola which is the graph of a quadratic function x = -ay2+by+c, where a,b,c are real numbers. Further, if x is a function of y, then y is also a function of x, which can be determined by completing the square. The domain is [-1,5] as the independent variable takes all the values in this interval. The range is (-5,1] as the dependent variable takes all the values in this interval ( there is a hole at the value -5 of the dependent variable).
