site specific recombination takes place between the DNA which possess a certain level of homology. The homologous regions would bind to its complementary regions forming double stranded DNA. Also, the non Homologous sequences are washed off.

The mobile elements which can move around are known as transposons or jumping genes which have the ability to incorporate itself within a DNA molecule.

The enzymes involved in this process are:

DNA helicase- opens double stranded DNA.

DNA polymerase III- Adds nucleotides complementary to the DNA sequence.

DNA polymerase !- It is a repair enzyme and has proof reading activity.

DNA ligase- joining of the double stranded DNA.

restriction endonucleases- Cuts the DNA strands.
