Assuming that the employees are self-motivated and innovative is the theory Y of theories of motivation by Douglas McGregor. In this theory, the employees are assumed to ambitious and self-motivated and if given the freedom to work they can come up with innovative ideas and greater productivity.

This theory does not stand right for a quality improvement program, as improvement programs demand continuous training and development of employees for sustainable improvement goals achievement.
