State what branch prediction is and give an example.
Branch prediction is a technique in Computer Architecture that is used to guess the way a branch will go before the actual result (or) A branch predictor in a processor attempts to guess the outcome of a conditional operation before the most likely result(or) branch prediction is the ability to guess the way a branch will execute. It is used to improve the flow of instruction pipeline.
Example:
It is a two bit branch prediction for looping
2. Discuss one-bit branch prediction and two bit branch predictions using examples and draw state machines of them. 3. What are conditions of data dependences and design the mechanism to check it. 4. Ch04.4. [6 points] Branch Prediction. Consider the following sequence of actual outcomes for a single static branch. T means the branch is taken. N means the branch is not taken. For this question, assume that this is the only branch in the program. TTTNTNTTTNTNTTTNTN Assume that we try to predict this sequence with a Branch History Table (BHT) using one-bit counters. The counters in the BHT are initialized to the N state. Which of the branches in this sequence would...
Give an example of data that could be obtained to make a prediction. Discuss lurking variables and why the correlation may not imply causation. Correlation and Regression is typically most students’ favorite area in statistics because it gives the ability to make predictions. Give an example of data that could be obtained to make a prediction. Discuss lurking variables and why the correlation may not imply causation.
Explain the concept of Federal checks and balances and give an example how EACH branch of the US government implements it against another branch.
Suppose that a machine with a 5-stage pipeline uses branch prediction. 12% of the instructions for a given test program are branches, of which 84% are correctly predicted. The other 16% of the branches suffer a 4-cycle mis-prediction penalty. (In other words, when the branch predictor predicts incorrectly, there are four instructions in the pipeline that must be discarded.) Assuming there are no other stalls, develop a formula for the number of cycles it will take to complete n lines...
(25 points) Consider a 1-bit and a 2-bit predictor. In the table below, indicate the prediction for the branch and whether the prediction is correct. For the 1-bit predictor use the notation"1 for taken, and "0 for not taken states. For the 2- bit predictor, use "11 for strongly taken state, "10 for weakly-taken state.'00 for strongly-not-taken state, and "01" for weakly-not-taken state. Assuming the first entry in the table, fill in the predictor's state after branch resolution for each...
. What are "side effects"? Give an example of a function with side effects (state the language in Jhich your example happens). Why do functional languages try to avoid side effects as much as possible?
Give an example for specific adsorption of a cation (state adsorbent and adsorbate) and for specific adsorption of an anion (state adsorbent and adsorbate) Give an example for specific adsorption of a cation (state adsorbent and adsorbate) and for specific adsorption of an anion (state adsorbent and adsorbate)
Question 2. Give an example of the following, or if no example exists state that. As always, prove your answer in either casc. (a) A finite non-normal extension of Q (b) A finite non-normal extension of R (c) A finite non-normal extension of F7
Give an example of a monopoly. a) State which barrier to entry it utilizes. b) Have you ever purchased this good or used this service? Explain Give an example of a company that uses price discrimination. a) State which type of price discrimination it utilizes. b) Have you ever purchased their good or used their service? If so, how were you impacted by their price discrimination
