The epiglottis is the opening of both trachea and larynx. The function of the epiglottis is to close the wind pipe during eat. So, if the epiglottis is removed during surgery for laryngeal cancer , it lead to entering of food particles in the wind pipe while eating and lead to the reaching of food particles in the lungs instead of lungs. This lead to the choking of food.

The two cavities that hold the internal organs are thoracic and abdominal cavity. The diaphgram separate the thoracic and abdominal cavity.

Two principal organs in thoracic cavity are heart and lungs.

Function of heart: pump blood throughout the body using circulatory system.
