\mu= 50

\bar x =48.8

\sigma =3.06

n = 78

This is the two tailed test .

The null and alternative hypothesis is ,

H0 :  \mu = 50

Ha : \mu     \neq 50

Test statistic = z

= (\bar x - \mu ) / \sigma / \sqrt n

= (48.8-50) /3.06 / \sqrt 78

= -3.46

this is two tail test

so

Degrees of freedom = df = n - 1 = 78 - 1 = 77

\alpha = 0.05

t\alpha ,df = t0.05,77 =1.66

critical value 1.66
