let the volume of wood be V

tension in the string , T = buoyant force - m * g

T = p2 * V * g - p1 * V * g

0.89 = V * 9.81 * ( 1000 - 706)

solving for V

V = 3.1 * 10^-4 m^3

b)

the acceleration , a = net force /effective mass

a = (buoyant force - m * g )/m

a = (p2 * V * g - p1 * V * g) /(p1 * V)

a = 9.81 * ( 1000 - 706)/706

a = 4.1 m/s^2

c)

as some volume of wood is outside the water

the volume of displaced is less

and the level of water will DROP
