2. a) what to conditions for linear regression are violated, base on the residual by predicated plot at right? For each of the two conditions, briefly explain what aspects of the pattern show that of violation occurred....

=> Solution -

Given data :-

a) The two conditions that are violated in the given plot are -

i) linearity of the response predictor relationship

ii) Homoscedasticity ( constant variation of error terms)

=> i) The liner rati of the response predictor :

The relationship between the response and the predictor variable is non- linear, the residuals exhibit a clear U- shape, which provides a strong indication of non-lineraty in the data.

ii) Homoscedasticity ( constant variance of the error terms) :

Violation of the above is term as heteroscedasticity. Non constant very veriances in the errors,or heteroscedasticity, can be interpreted from the presence of a funnel shape in the residual plot.

b) From the plot in b) path we can say that the the residual are not normally distributed.

    The predicted calories in food items based on grams of fat are represented by the residual plot. What does the pattern in the residual plot indicate about the type of model? The pattern is random, indicating a good fit for a nonlinear model. The pattern shows the points are far from the zero line, indicating a good fit for a linear model.  The pattern is random, indicating a good fit for a linear model.  The pattern shows the points are far from...

    When you use linear regression to fit a linear model, and create a scatterplot of actual vs. predicted values, you would ideally see: a. the points lie close to the diagonal line from bottom left to upper right b. the points form a random "cloud" C. the point lie close to a horizontal line (write a, b or c): (True/False) If you have many variables (features), you will tend to prefer non-parametric methods to parametric methods. 2. [-16.5 Points] DETAILS DEVORESTAT9 12.E.021. MY NOTES ASK YOUR TEACHER PRACTICE ANOTHER Wrinkle recovery angle and tensile strength are the two most important characteristics for evaluating the performance of crosslinked cotton fabric. An increase in the degree of crosslinking, as determined by ester carboxyl band absorbance, improves the wrinkle resistance of the fabric (at the expense of reducing mechanical strength). The accompanying data on x = absorbance and y = wrinkle resistance angle was read from a graph in...

    2) Recently the locus that controls fur color in cats has been identified. Two alleles for this locus (black and white) exist with the white allele being recessive. Upon sequencing the mucleotides of these alleles it was found they differed in a single nucleotide (T to G transition) To identify the region in which this mutation occurred, scientists performed a Southern blotting from pure-bred black (B) and white (W) cats. After digesting genomic DNA with three restriction enzymes (Hind Il....
