2x^2+10x+12=0 Can someone please explain this to me with steps. I don't understand it quite yet, steps and an explanation would be very helpful. I'm very, very new to this.

Comparing $\dpi{100} \small 2x^{2}+10x+12=0$    with $\dpi{100} \small ax^{2}+bx+c=0$    we get $\dpi{100} \small a=2,\: \: b=10,\: \: \: c=12$

Now, using the quadratic formula,

$\dpi{100} \small x=\frac{-b\pm \sqrt{b^{2}-4ac}}{2a}$

$\dpi{100} \small \therefore x=\frac{-10\pm \sqrt{10^{2}-4\times 2\times 12}}{2\times 2}$

$\dpi{100} \small \therefore x=\frac{-10\pm \sqrt{100-96}}{4}$

$\dpi{100} \small \therefore x=\frac{-10\pm \sqrt{4}}{4}$

$\dpi{100} \small \therefore x=\frac{-10\pm 2}{4}$

$\dpi{100} \small \therefore x=\frac{-10+2}{4}\: \: \: \: or\: \: \: x=\frac{-10-2}{4}$

$\dpi{100} \small \therefore x=\frac{-8}{4}\: \: \: \: or\: \: \: x=\frac{-12}{4}$
