Write the net ionic equation of the following reaction.
Al(NO3)3(aq)+(NH4)3PO4(aq)->AlPO4(s)+3NH4NO3(aq)
Here each reactant and product is a salt so let's break them down into their corresponding anion and cation however since AlPO4 is in solid form, it remains as such because dissociation occurs only in aqueous solution.
Al(NO3)3 Al3+ + 3 NO3-
(NH4)3PO4 3NH4+ + PO4 3-
NH4NO3 NH4+ + NO3-
Now lets write this for the above reaction
Al3+(aq) + 3 NO3-(aq) + 3NH4+(aq) + PO4 3-(aq) AlPO4 (S) + 3NH4+(aq) + 3NO3-(aq)
The common ion on both sides are cancelled by each other and we get
Al3+(aq) + PO4 3-(aq) AlPO4 (S)
