1. Read about the three major theories of intelligence (Spearman’s G, Cattell and Horn’s crystallized vs fluid, or Sternberg’s triarchic theory). Describe one and tell me why is it important to understand; please don’t copy straight out of the text or slides, use your own words.
2. How schemas and heuristics are connected to cognitive
fallacies?
Thanks!
Sternberg introduced the Triarchic Theory of Intelligence which comprises of componential which is also other wise known as analytical, experiential which includes new problem solving as well as the one's that are known and finally practical or contextual which is more of situation orientated. It's one of the best and widely accepted theory which is used in psychometric tests across the world.
All the three components are very important for one to function normally in the society. People who more prone to analytical will be able to break down the existing components and find a solution but they won't be very creative in bringing novel ideas. Everyone at one point in their life will solve new problem or recurring problems throughout and people need to adjust their intelligence in order to make themselves fit to live in a given environment where practical intelligence play a major role.
Schemas and heruistics are patterns that help one acquire, arrange and store knowledge and information. When the mind is exposed to new information, the existing information might clash with the new information thus disturbing the accommodation of the new information thus ending in cognitive fallacies.
