At Cookeville’s municipal wastewater treatment plant, influent methanol underwent biodegradation by
autotrophic microorganisms during wastewater t

Problem s municipal wastewater treatment plant, influe:t methanol At Cookcville underwent biodegradation by autotrophic microorganisms during wastewater treatment process in a completely anacrobic rcactor to produce mcthane, carbon dioxid: and water as the effluent. (a) write a balanced biochemical reaction for the biochemical process (b) Draw a simple diagram of the anaerobic reactor and label it with appropriate variables for flow rates and compositions. に) Using your balanced biochemical rcaction in (a, what will the bioproduction rates bc tor cach of kghr? Report all your results with units of kghr.

please do a, b, and c thank you show all steps as well thanks so much

Answer #1

a) 4CH3OH -------------------->3CH4+2H2O+1CO2

b)

c)

Rate of disappearance of CH3OH is 4 times greater compared to appearance ofCO2, 4/3 times greater compared to appearance CH4, 2 times greater compared to appearance of H2O.

so rate= -Δ[CH3OH]/4Δt = Δ[CH4]/3Δt = Δ[H2O]/2Δt= Δ[CO2]/Δt

Δ[CH3OH]/Δt= 0.1 kg/hr, so Δ[CH3OH]/4Δt= 0.1/4=1/40

Δ[CH4]/3Δt = 1/40 kg/hr

Δ[CH4]/Δt= 1/40*3= 3/40kg/hr

Δ[H2O]/2Δt=1/40 kg/hr

Δ[H2O]/Δt=1/40*2=1/20 kg/hr

Δ[CO2]/Δt=1/40 kg/hr

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
