3. a) Assuming a molecule of CoCl2.6H2O : Mass of the molecule = 58.9 + 2 * 35.5 + 6 * 18 = 237.9

Mass of Water = 6 * 18 = 108

Mass fraction of water in the compound = 108 / 237.9 = 0.454

Grams of watre removed from the sample = mass of sample * mass fraction of water = 2.5 * 0.454 = 1.135 g

b. Grams of CoCl2 = mass of sample - mass of water = 2.5 - 1.135 = 1.365 g
