How many grams of each of the following substances will dissolve in 100 mL of cold water? Consult a handbook or the Internet and cite your source. Ce(lO3)4 RaSO4 Pb(NO) (NH)SeO 2b. Which of these substances is least soluble on a gram-per-100 mL basis? 3. Suppose you have a solution that might contain any or all of the following cations: Cu2, Ag , Ba2+, and Mn2. The addition of HBr causes a precipitate to form. After the precipitate is separated by filtration, H,SO, is added to the supernatant liquid, and another precipitate forms. This precipitate is separated by filtration, and a solution of NaOH is added to the supernatant liquid until it is strongly alkaline. No precipitate is formed. Which ions are present in each of the precipitates? Which cations are not present in the original solution? K2COs(ag) and Cu(NO,)2 Cag), (c) Fe(NO)2(ag) and HCKag), and (d) Bi(OH),(s) and HNO, (ag). a) b) c) d) 4. Write balanced net ionic equations for the reactions, if any, that occur between (a) Fe,S,(s) and HBr(ag), (b)

Answer #1

1)

The reaction in which the cations and anions exchange partners is called metathesis reaction.

For option (d),

Na2CO3 + CuSO4 ---------> Na2SO4 + CuCO3

In this reaction Cu++ (Cation) is exchanged with CO3-- (anion)

Therefore this reaction is metathesis reaction.
