Answer #1

(1)

A general equation for a metathesis:

AX + CY → AY + CX

Where,

A and C are cations

X and Y are anions.

For option (d),

2 Na+ + CO32- + Cu2+ + SO42-   ------> Na2SO4 + CuCO3

Here,

Na+ & Cu2+ are cations.

CO32- & SO42- are anions.

Therefore, this reaction is metathesis reaction.

(2)

(a) Solubility of given product at 20 0C in 100 mL of water.

Ce(IO3)4 = 0.123

RaSO4 = 2.1 × 10−4

Pb(NO3)2 = 54.3

(NH4)2SeO4 = 115

(b)

RaSO4 is least soluble in 100 mL of water.

(3)

Addition of HBr will add H+ and Br-,

Ag+(aq) + Br-(aq) --> AgBr(s)

AgBr is likely to precipitate if enough Br- is added.... therefore this precipitate is AgBr.

Then, after filtration, H2SO4 addition will form most likely

Ba2+(aq) + SO42-(aq) --> BaSO4(s)

If there is enough SO42- in solution, expect BaSO4 to form

After Filtration...

NaOH is added, but no precipitate forms

This implies that no Mn2+ and Cu2+ are present.

Since those should form Mn(OH)2 and Cu(OH)2 respectively...

therefore, they are not present

Ions present = Ag+, Ba2+

(4)

(a) Molecular equation: Fe253(s) + 6 HBr(aq) => 2 FeBr3(aq) + 3 H2S(g) Net ionic equation: Fe253(s) + 6 H+(aq) => 2 Fe3+(aq)
