Answer #1

Organophosphates act by inhibiting acetyl cholinesterase enzyme (AChE), which hydrolyses acetylcholine into choline and acetyl moiety. Inhibiting AChE increases the physiological activities mediated by ACh, particularly parasympathetic stimulation. The symptoms of organophosphate poisoning include the following.

1. Excessive salivation, lacrimation

2. Respiratory distress

3. Muscle paralysis

4. Decreased heart rate and blood pressure

5. Miosis, blurred vision.
