Question

2- A welding operation will take place on carbon steel. The desired welding speed is around 0.8 in./s. If an arc welding power supply is used with a voltage of 12 V, what current is needed if the weld width is to be 0.2 in? Assume that the weld cross-section is triangular. (20 marks) 3- For question 2, what would be the temperature increase of the entire structure due to the heat input from welding only? Hint: H()DVCA(20

Answer #1

Solution :-

Power of Weld = 12 * current   Watts

Power required to weld = rho * C * ( Tmelt - Tambient) * A * weld speed

                                   = 7860 * 460 * ( 1723 - 298 ) * 1.29 * 10^-5 * 0.02032      (0.8 in /s = 0.02032 m/s )

                                   = 1350.5437   watts

current = 1350.5437 / 12 = 112.545 Amperes

    CODE 102_8 Welding Many welding processes require the application of heat and/or pressure to produce a suitable bond between the two parts being joined. There are a number of conventional and commercially practiced welding processes, which possess limitations in relation to material type and thickness, and in addition, the cost analysis may not allow for a process to be used on a specific application. The selection of suitable welding consumable (electrode or wire) is also an important factor in producing...

    msu Q3. A high-speed proportional solenoid valve is shown in Figure 2.Avoltage proportional to the desired position of the spool is applied to the coil. The resulting magnetic field produced by the current in the coil causes the armature to move. A push pin connected to the armature moves the spool. A linear voltage differential transformer (LVDT) that outputs a voltage proportional to displacement senses the spool's position. This voltage can be used in a feedback path to implement closed-loop...

The piston's steel skirt is much more rigid than the aluminum skirt in smaller deformation and allowing for designs with tighter clearances tin harmful exhaust emissions) from the piston. This design has been shown to reduce piston termn results in a more stable piston with less oil consumption (thus further r which are machined prior to welding. The process...
