Answer #1

no of mol of PbSO4 precipitated = 1.69/303.26 = 0.0056 mol

no of mol of Pb present in sample = 0.0056 mol

mass of Pb present in sample = 0.0056*207.2 = 1.16 g

mass of Sn present in sample = 3.00 - 1.16 = 1.84 g

percentage of Sn in sample = 1.84/3*100 = 61.33%

A 0.3304-g sample of brass (containing lead, zinc, copper, and tin) was dissolved in nitric acid. The sparingly soluble SnO2.4H2O was removed by filtration, and the combined filtrate and washings were then diluted to 500.0 mL. A 10.00-mL aliquot was suitably buffered; titration of the lead, zinc, and copper in this aliquot required 34.78 mL of 0.002700 M EDTA. The copper in a 25.00-mL aliquot was masked with thiosulfate; the lead and zinc were then titrated with 25.62 mL of...

A sample of a chromium-containing alloy weighing 3.450 g was dissolved in acid, and all the chromium in the sample was oxidized to 2CrO42–. It was then found that 3.18 g of Na2SO3 was required to reduce the 2CrO42– to CrO2– in a basic solution, with the SO32– being oxidized to SO42–. Write a balanced equation for the reaction of 2CrO42– with SO32- in a basic solution. Please include physical states! How many grams of chromium were in the alloy...

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc with smaller amounts of lead, tin, and other elements. Generally, copper can be separated from the other components by electrolysis. A sample of brass is analyzed for copper by electrogravimetry. A portion of the alloy weighing 2.1049 g is dissolved in nitric acid, and the copper is plated onto a platinum gauze cathode weighing 13.4963 g. After electrolysis is complete, the cathode is removed from the solution, washed, and dried. It now...
