Answer #1

One of the most important issues that societies face is the increasing crime rate that makes the society unsafe. Although most of the crimes are committed out of emotional imbalance, there are other social reasons that contribute to crimes. As per the conflict theory, the society is in a perpetual conflict for the limited resources available where social order is maintained not through consensus but through domination. This would mean that when people are dominated, oppressed and discriminated, they would have no other option but to engage in crimes in order for their survival. Strain theory suggests that when people are asked to achieve goals without any means to achieve them, they would engage in crimes. This would mean that while some people have an accumulated advantage which makes it easy for them to chase those goals, others have accumulated disadvantage that would make it difficult for them to achieve those goals. This would lead them to engage in deviant behaviours to achieve those goals. Thus, the existing social structures and institutions that cause inequality would force people to engage in crimes.
