What does the proteasome do? What benefit(s) is this in the process of the cell?
the main fuction of proteasome is to degrade the protein that is not needed for the cell or they are damaged protein basically misfolded protein, so either sell is trying to fold it correctly or it will degrade it. the degradation of the protein with proteasome is called proteolysis and if this process is not proper then it can cause the accumulation of unfolded protein which can be a cause for various neurodegenrative disorder like prions disease or alzheimer disease.
