(a) The first step is hydroboration of alkenes that converts alkene to a primary alcohol.

The primary alcohol is then converted to an aldehyde by the reagent PCC.

(b) Ozone(O3) helps in the oxidative cleavage of alkenes. Then, when treated with 1 equivalent DIBAL-H, the aldehyde is converted to a primary alcohol.
