On the basis of presence of oxygen it is of two types -

1) Aerobic bioremediation - The type of bioremediation in which oxgen use as a electron acceptor for oxidation of heavily reduced substrate (contaminant) like phenol , PAH ( polyaromatic hydrocarbon ) etc .

Anaerobic bioremediation - The type of remediation in which other than oxygen use for oxidised substrate(contaminant) .
