Label each cell stage. The image below is of a plant cell in
mitosis.
As the image shown above is showing different stages of mitosis in plant cell, the phase of cell division of each marked cell is identified and their cellular basis along with brief explanation have been given as following...
A. Anaphase
Explanation : In anaphase, the sister chromatids separate and move towards the opposite poles of the cell pulled by spindle fibres attached at their centromeres. Under the microscope, the chromosomes can be clearly seen to be separating into two groups and being placed at opposite sides of the cell.
B. Telophase
Explanation : In telophase, the spindle fibres disappear and the cell starts dividing itself through cytokinesis to form two daughter cells. In case of plant cell, golgi apparatus migrate to the middle of the cell, and fuse together to form a cell plate dividing the cell into two daughter cells with their own clearly defined nucleus. Under the microscope, the cluster of DNA can be clearly seen at opposite poles. Cell plate can be seen forming at the middle of the cell, separating those two DNA clusters. Those cluster of DNA or chromosomes, eventually develop into a clearly defined nucleus.
C. Prophase
Explanation : During prophase, the molecules of DNA become condensed, becoming shorter and thicker. Under the microscope the nucleus of the cell in early prophase will look like a intact, round, dark spot.
D. Interphase
Explanation : Interphase is the preparatory stage where cell prepare itself by undergoing the sub-phases G1, S, G2 and M. Under the microscope the cell in this stage will look like a semi-transparent body (cytoplasm) with a slightly grainy part (nucleus).
E. Metaphase
Explanation : In metaphase stage, the chromosomes form a metaphase plate by lining up along the equatorial plane or center axis of the cell. Chromosomes are also attached to the spindle fibres. Under the microscope, the metphasic plate can be clearly seen at the middle of the cell. Spindle fibres can also be seen to radiate outward from the chromosomes to the outer poles of the cell.
