When it comes to Intercultural Communications, what is the difference between adapting and conforming?

One of the most important things about intercultural communication is that it would require people to understand the differences in other cultures. This would mean that while some confront and engage in conflicts, others would understand, appreciate and adopt the differences and reach amicable solutions. When people adopt and conform to the cultural norms of other cultures, they widen their understanding and worldview. However, when people stick to their own cultural values, practices and behaviours, they would not only able to understand the differences but also would contribute to more ambiguity and issues. Although people confront the differences initially, as they get along and move in the society, they would gain more experience and exposure that would help them conform to them. When someone conforms, they may do it without understanding why one is doing so. However, when someone adopts, they hold on to their practices while understand appreciate and adopt to the practices of others thus, making the communication not only effective but also productive. This would also reduce conflicts between the members involved.
