Fungi are eukaryotes and are saprotrophic when it comes to mode of nutrition. They feed on dead and decaying matter. Fungi have a thread-like structure called mycelium and it develop from hyphae. Mycelium is involved in the reproduction and decomposition of decaying matter. Mycelium can be defined as collective bundles of hypae. Along with cell membrane fungi also has cell wall and it is composed of chitin.
They are largely classified into four phylum - Basidiomycota, Zygomycota, Ascomycota and Deutromycota.
