Answer #1

(a)

we know that number of points scored in a basketball game can only be whole number it can not be fraction or decimal and the number of points scored in a basketball game is countable so, it is discrete

Answer: B. The random variable is discrete. The possible values are x = 0,1,2,.....

(b)

Time it takes for a light bulb to burn out can be fraction or decimal so, it can be any value greater than 0

As it can be any value greater than 0 so, the random variable time it takes for a light bulb to burn out will have uncountable total possible value therefore, it is continuous.

Answer: A. The random variable is continuous. The possible values are t >0.
