Answer #1

The median voter theorem states that in a majority rule voting system, the candidate most preferred by the median voter will be elected. Hence, Candidates will position themselves around the center. The median is the middle number in a sorted, ascending or descending, list of numbers. We calculate it by first arranging the numbers in ascending or descending order, and then,

(n+1)/ 2 (if the total number of voters are odd in number) and n/2 (If if the total number of voters are even in number) where n is the total number of voters.

Answers:

Answer 13: Center Left

Number of voters = 101

Median = (101+1)/2 = 51

Hence, the group with the 51st voter will get their exact wish. There are 50 voters on the left and the 51st voter lies in the center left category.

Hence, the answer is Center Left. The center left (51st) voter will get his/her exact wish.

.

Answer 14: Center Left

Since the number of voters is still 101, the median is again 51. The 51st voter lies in the center left category and hence, the answer is again Center Left..

Answer 15: Demand for haircuts falls more because haircuts are more of a luxury good than food.

While haircuts are more of a want, food is a necessity and hence, haircut is a more of a luxury when compared to food. You need food to survive while you can live without a haircut/ cut your hair yourself. Hence, the demand for food is a lot more inelastic than the demand for a haircut. While people cannot control their demand for food in any situation due to hunger, haircuts can be avoided during a calamity like a drought. A recent real life example could be that a lot of people have been avoiding going to the barber during this Coronavirus pandemic, however, no one can stop eating.

    please answer all questions 18. We mentioned that the median voter theorem doesn't always work, and sometimes a winning policy doesn't exist. This fact has driven economists and political scientists to write thousands of papers and books, both proving that fact and also trying to find good workarounds. The most famous theoretical example of how voting doesn't work is the Condorcet paradox. The Marquis de Condorcet, a French nobleman in the 1700s, wondered what would happen if three voters had...
