Problem: In order to help student deal with chem anxiety a group of researchers have come up with two different programs. Program A provides counseling sessions, three session a week for six weeks. Program B supplements the counseling sessions with short quizzes that are designed to improve student confidence. For 30 students who suffer chem anxiety, 10 students were assigned to Program A, 10 students were assigned to Program B, the other 10 students were assigned to a control group with no program (control group). The study measured, for each student, the drop in the number of times that caused anxiety. Researchers compared the average number of drops for all three groups.

Answer: ANOVA F-test

Here, we need to use the ANOVA F-test because we have to compare the more than two population means. We use ANOVA F test when we need to compare more than two population means and if there are two population means for comparison, then we use two sample t test for the population means.

Answer: The parameter of interest for this study is the average number of drops (average number of times that caused anxiety or the average chem anxiety score of students).

C. state the null and alternative hypotheses.

Null hypothesis: H0: The average number of times that caused anxiety for all three groups of students is same.

Alternative hypothesis: Ha: The average number of times that caused anxiety is different for at least one group out of three groups of students.
