Time response of a control system is defined as the output of a control system when subjected to an input which is function of time. The analysis of the system with respect to time ( Studying properties of the system with respect to time) is called time response analysis.
Time Response can be classified into two types:-
1. Transient Response 2. Steady state Response
Transient Response :- The output of the system before it settles down to a final value is called transient Response . In transient Response delay time, rise time , peak overshoot, settling time etc. are studied.
Steady State Response :- The output of the system after it settles down to a final value is called steady state response.
For example shown in the image below in 2nd order system Time response: (The Transfer function in the box is the standard 2nd order transfer function where omega n is natural frequency and zeta is damping ratio)
