Suppose we have 3 groups of 25 subjects each that are participating in a study evaluating cognition. Each group is given a list of words to study for 15 minutes. They then take a test on the spelling of the words. Each group is instructed to study the words a different way, helping the researchers evaluate how people learn best. Group 1 is told to just read the list. Group 2 is told read the list and to associate each word with an event or feeling. Group 3 is told to read the list and then test themselves on the spelling as they go along. The summary statistics of the test scores of each group is given below: Group 1: 7=34.8, s=2.9 Group 2: T=36.7, s=4.1 Group 3: ī=38.3, s=3.3 Suppose the conditions for ANOVA are met. Thus, we conduct an ANOVA test at the 1% significance level to see if the average scores are truly different between the groups.
